Recent Happenings – SANAA Lecture!
|
This semester the Japan GSD club is sponsoring a series of lectures from prominent Japanese architects. The series includes Sou Fujimoto, Junya Ishigami, Kazuyo Seijma/Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA) and Toyo Ito. This past Thursday SANAA came to present their lecture “Architecture is Environment.” They presented ten projects which were either completed by SANAA or in their independent offices. I was really surprised by the simplicity inherent in their drawings. Since their work often expresses something intangible, an overall atmosphere, I shouldn’t have been surprised by their drawings & renderings. They’re trying to express something that just can’t be represented. Something more like a feeling. Instead their photos of the projects became most important. After visiting the Zollverein School of Management and Design a few years ago, I’d really LOVE to visit some of the other projects presented during the lecture. PACKED Lecture!
