Linen Overblouse

This shirt was made over break using the Take Manhattan pattern from Wenlan Chia’s Twinkle Sews book. I love the patterns from Chia’s book but the book is not very good at estimating the amount of fabric necessary or the proper size. The book listed my size as a 12 based on my measurements but I ended up using the size 4 pattern. I had the same problem with a skirt I made previously. I also ran out of fabric and used some extra fabric from an old couch cover to line the inside of the pocket. This messed up the drape of the fabric (my bad) so I had to taper the side seams from the bust to about 1.5″ in at the bottom of the seam so I didn’t look like a giant triangle. I also made the cowl smaller than in the pattern just because I liked it that way!

Anyway, I still love the shirt. I’m sure it’ll get a lot of use while I’m making models, sewing, etc. since it’s kind of like an apron-shirt due to the huge pockets.
